Private Office vs Coworking: Which Fits Your Working Day?
May 29, 2026 · Mike Thakur

You're halfway through explaining something important on a call and the conversation at the next desk gets louder. Again.
Or maybe the opposite is true. You have a perfectly good office, the door stays open all day, and you'd much rather be around people.
Same question. Different answers.
Coworking gives you a place to work in a shared environment. A private office gives you a room reserved for you or your team. Neither is a measure of how successful your business is. The useful question is which one makes a normal working day easier.
Start with the calls
If most of your day is quiet laptop work and the occasional conversation, coworking can be a great fit. You get a professional setting without needing a whole room to yourself.
If you're interviewing candidates, discussing client information or spending hours on video, look more closely at a private office. Consider the people around you as well as your own concentration. Nobody needs to attend your fourth sales call by accident.
A closed door helps with separation, but don't assume any room is soundproof. Visit, listen and ask about the space you're actually considering.
How many people need to work together?
A solo consultant might want the energy of a shared area for years. A five-person team might need a place to leave equipment, train someone and talk without booking a room every time.
Think about who will be there on the busiest day, not just how many names are on payroll. A hybrid team still needs enough space when everyone turns up.
WorkLodge offers office options for individuals and teams of 1–40, subject to availability. The right layout matters as much as the headcount.
Check the hours before you compare the price
At WorkLodge, open coworking memberships provide weekday access from 8am to 5pm. Reserved desk memberships provide access seven days a week, 8am to 8pm. Private-office members have 24/7 keycard access.
That's a meaningful difference if your clients are in another time zone or your best work happens after dinner. The cheapest plan on a comparison page isn't much use if the hours don't fit.
Compare the whole working arrangement
Ask what the quote includes, what costs extra and what notice you need to give. For private offices, confirm the setup fee, any service retainer and included meeting-room credits, which vary by office size. Don't assume unlimited room use.
Published starting rates help you shortlist. Your actual office quote depends on the space, team and membership term.
Members have free covered parking at both WorkLodge locations. Visitors have free parking that isn't covered. Small detail? Until you're hosting someone, yes.
Try the day you're buying
Visit when you'd normally work. Notice the noise, the welcome, the route to the room and where you'd take your next call.
You don't need to buy an office because it sounds more grown-up. You need somewhere your work fits.
